The Windows – an essay film – is a prologue (or echo) to The Caryatides and in general to the work series Santa Barbara dedicated to the shopping and community centre “Santa Barbara” in Lviv.

The main motifs of the short essay film are windows. Windows are metaphorical connectors to places we yearn for and thus represent dreams and desires. In The Windows, the Christian story of Saint Barbara, which also draws on the theme of windows, merges with market stalls, kiosks, residential buildings still under construction and the lyrics of a song from the American soap opera “Santa Barbara” which accompanies the main protagonists’ memories of their romance. “Nova Santa Barbara” is also the name of the market where the film was shot. It and its name reference the series and at the same time the dreams it induced.
